What is the difference between FUE and DHI?

Both FUE and DHI extract follicles individually from the donor zone. The difference is in implantation: FUE creates recipient channels first then implants; DHI loads grafts into a Choi pen and implants directly without pre-made channels. When will I see the full result?

Transplanted hair sheds at weeks 2–4 (expected — the follicle is not lost). New growth begins at 3–4 months. At 6 months, around 50% of final density is visible. How many grafts will I need?

Graft requirements depend on your Norwood stage, the area to be covered, and your natural hair calibre and density. A Norwood III hairline restoration typically requires 1,500–2,500 grafts; a Norwood V restoration can require 3,500–5,000+. Dr. Arslan provides a precise graft estimate after reviewing your photographs — this is part of the free assessment.

How do I verify a hair transplant clinic in Turkey?

Ask four questions: (1) Is the surgeon present for the entire procedure? (2) How many patients per day? (3) Is the clinic Ministry of Health licensed? Does Dr. Arslan personally perform every part of my surgery?

Canal-opening is performed personally by Dr. Arslan on every patient in the Gold and VIP packages. Graft placement is also done personally by him in the VIP package; in Silver and Gold, his trained team places the grafts.

Do I have to shave my head for a hair transplant?

Not necessarily. Hairmedico offers an unshaven FUE option with no head shave required, plus a no-shave DHI approach for female pattern hair loss; standard FUE and DHI for male pattern baldness typically require shaving the donor and recipient areas for precision.

How long does a hair transplant take?

A standard FUE session at Hairmedico Istanbul takes 6–8 hours. In the VIP tier, Dr. Arslan Musbeh performs the entire procedure personally, from extraction to implantation.

Can a hair transplant look unnatural?

Only if it is planned poorly. An unnatural result usually comes from a hairline that is too straight or too low, grafts implanted at the wrong angle, or overharvesting that leaves the donor area visibly thin. These are design and surgical-skill failures, not an inherent limitation of the procedure — which is why Dr. Arslan marks every hairline personally and plans density with your future hair loss in mind, not just how the result looks on day one.

FUE, DHI or Algorithmic FUE™

All three techniques at Hairmedico are follicular unit extraction — individual grafts are removed one at a time, never as a strip. The difference is in how those grafts are implanted, and it changes which technique suits which case.

FUE Hair Transplant

The standard approach for most donor and recipient sizes, suited to sessions up to around 5,000 grafts. Recipient channels are opened first with a micro-blade or fine needle, then grafts are implanted individually by hand. Dr. Arslan confirms the specific combination for your case during the bespoke assessment, based on your donor density, hair calibre and the area to be covered. There is no single "best" technique for every patient — the right choice depends on how much coverage you need, how coarse or fine your hair is, and whether the priority is maximum density or the fastest possible healing.

Candidacy

Who is a good
candidate?

Candidacy is assessed against three factors, not age alone: your Norwood or Ludwig stage, the density and quality of your donor area, and the stability of your hair loss pattern. Not every case needs surgery. Diffuse thinning without a clearly defined donor-recipient contrast, active scalp conditions, or very early, unstable hair loss are sometimes better addressed with non-surgical treatment first, or a combination approach. Dr. Arslan will say so directly during your assessment rather than recommend surgery that is unlikely to hold up well over time.

Donor density comes first

The donor zone at the back and sides of the scalp supplies every graft you will ever receive. A dense, healthy donor area supports a larger session and leaves reserve for a possible future touch-up; a thin or already-harvested donor area limits how much can safely be moved without visible thinning at the back.

Hair loss should be stable or medically managed

Transplanted follicles are permanent, but surrounding native hair can continue to thin with ongoing genetic hair loss. For younger patients or early Norwood stages, Dr. Arslan often recommends finasteride or minoxidil alongside — or instead of — surgery, to protect the result over time. Age is a factor, not a rule

Most candidates are between their mid-20s and mid-60s. Very early hair loss in the early 20s is approached cautiously, since the eventual pattern is harder to predict. There is no strict upper age limit — general health and scalp condition matter more than the number on your passport.

Aftercare

Recovery,
week by week.

Days 1–10

Mild swelling in the first 2–3 days is normal and managed with medication provided at the clinic. Tiny crusts form around each graft and shed naturally. The first wash is performed at the clinic before you fly home, and a protective headband is worn while crusting resolves.

Weeks 2–6

Transplanted hairs shed — this is expected and does not mean the graft has failed. The follicle remains beneath the skin and re-enters a new growth cycle. This phase, sometimes called shock loss, is the point where patients most often worry unnecessarily.

Months 3–4

New, finer hair begins to emerge from the transplanted follicles. Growth is uneven at first — some grafts activate earlier than others — and the hair can appear thin or wispy before it thickens.

Months 6–8

Density becomes visibly apparent and hair calibre thickens. Most patients feel comfortable in public without concealment by this stage, though the result is still maturing.

Months 12–14

Final density, texture and hairline shape are assessed at this stage. Our 12-month follow-up programme tracks each of these milestones remotely, with photographs reviewed by Dr. Arslan's team.

Ongoing

Transplanted hair is permanent and behaves like hair from the donor zone — it does not fall out again. Native, non-transplanted hair can still thin over time with ongoing genetic hair loss, which is why some patients combine surgery with medical treatment such as finasteride, minoxidil or PRP to protect the hair surrounding the transplanted area for years to come.

Safety

Real risks, and how
they're managed.

Hair transplant surgery is generally safe, but it is still surgery. Most complications that reach us as repair cases trace back to the same root cause: a volume clinic that let an untrained technician, not a surgeon, make the decisions that determine the result. None of this is unique medical knowledge — it is exactly what any qualified surgeon would tell you, in any country. The reason it needs saying explicitly is that the hair transplant industry in Turkey includes both fully licensed surgical clinics and unregulated operations advertising the same procedures at similar prices, and the difference between them is not visible from a website alone.

Infection and poor healing

Reduced by single-use sterile instruments, a licensed surgical environment and antibiotic cover where indicated. Ministry of Health accreditation means the clinic's sterilisation and hygiene standards are independently inspected, not self-certified.

Unnatural hairline or graft angle

The most common reason patients seek a repair transplant is a hairline or angle drawn by a technician working from a template rather than a surgeon assessing the individual face. This is precisely why Dr. Arslan marks every hairline personally before surgery begins.

Low graft survival (poor yield)

Grafts that sit outside the body too long, or are handled roughly during extraction, have lower survival rates. Slower, more careful extraction — the trade-off Hairmedico makes by treating one patient per day rather than several — protects yield.

Overharvesting the donor area

Taking too many grafts from too small a donor zone leaves a thin, patchy area at the back and sides that cannot be undone. Algorithmic FUE™'s systematic donor mapping is designed specifically to prevent this.

Every Hairmedico package is all-inclusive and quoted as a single fixed figure after your assessment — there is no per-graft billing and no day-of upsells. Three factors decide which package and price apply to your case.

Quotes that arrive before any photograph has been reviewed are a warning sign, not a bargain — they are set before anyone has actually assessed your donor density or graft need. Hairmedico's figure is issued only after Dr. Arslan has personally reviewed your case, so the number you receive is the number you pay, from the assessment to the 12-month follow-up.

Graft count

Determined by your Norwood or Ludwig stage and the area to be covered. A hairline-only restoration needs far fewer grafts than a full crown-to-hairline session, and this is the single biggest driver of price.

Package tier

Silver, Gold and VIP differ in how much of the procedure Dr. Arslan performs personally — his team leads Silver, he personally opens the canals in Gold and VIP, and performs every extraction and placement himself in VIP — plus the hotel category and inclusions. Technique

Before the First Incision

Every hairline is drawn

Recipient area and hairline boundaries are marked directly on the scalp before surgery begins — a manual step that fixes the density pattern and natural angle Dr. Arslan follows for the next six to eight hours.

The hairline is drawn asymmetric on purpose — a perfectly straight or symmetrical hairline is one of the clearest signs of a template-based, technician-drawn design. Natural hairlines have soft irregularity, a slightly uneven frontal edge and finer, less dense hair at the very front, tapering into fuller density behind it.
